Captain Henry Wirz, commandant of the notrious Andersonville (Camp Sumter) prison of war camp was the only Confederate officer tried for war crimes. He was subsequently convicted and hanged.
It's unfortunate that Gen. Phil Sheridan wasn't named chair of a military tribunal that could have tried all the high ranking Confederate officers for treason.
He might have said something along the lines that the only good Confederate is a dead Confederate.

They took off to Galveston Island in the Gulf of America, where they claimed to be the legit government of the USA, and didn't surrender. If you think about Taiwan, you understand the power we'd have when heavily arming these people on Galveston Island to be the next ukraine! Or you can be utterly dim.
