1. Harry Truman (architect of the post-war liberal world order and America‘s role as a benevolent, global hegemon)

2. Abraham Lincoln (His mere election caused the secession crisis and his political and military leadership ended slavery, prevented foreign intervention during the civil war, helped end the civil war victoriously and comprehensively, ushered in the reconstruction era and kept the nation whole)

3. Ronald Reagan (Went on the offensive against the Soviet Union in proxy conflicts all over the world, shifted the military, economic and technological balance of power decisively in favor of the US and the liberal world, helped end the Cold War, re-invigorated and stablized the US economy, seriously diminished Iran‘s military capabilities, and successfully promoted democracy and freedom through various instruments of statecraft in Europe, Asia and Latin America).

4. George Washington (Led the continental Army to victory, consolidated the young nation, helped set up the first liberal-constitutional Republic in modern history and secured that fledgling liberalism by stepping down after two terms)

@CedricH your list is similar to mine. The question was “favorite”, not who was “best”. Nor was a time period specified. I put Truman at the top of the list because he was interesting and president during an important part of history. Washington because I think the country would not have survived if not for his humbleness. And I would put Reagan up there because he was the president of my youth and the first one I remember.

@trollslayer Well, it did say favorite but my personal favor is bestowed upon the Presidents I consider to be the best - or the ones who were the most indispensable and made the most significantly positive impact on the trajectory of the nation and the world.
