Remebwr back in 1900 when acres of land was $10?

Can we do that again?
Tastyfrzz · 61-69, M
Just go back to wages being $1.00 a day and have a total US population of 76 million instead of over 330 million.
@Tastyfrzz then it also failed. The Great Dust Bowl was next, the displacement, the oakies getting shot by rednecks...
It didn't work. People tried to "settle down" on land and survive on their own labor, and then the Great Dust Bowl, massive suffering, extinction, loss.

They were smarter back in the day.

They kept their land.
No, I don't, nor do you.
@GuyWithOpinions Your statement is "remember back in 1900 when acres of land was $10?"

I don't, you don't.

Yes, land was cheaper at different times and varied by place.

$10 could well be more than you think in 1900. You want to know buying power and its equivalent.

Where are you getting your specific info?

@SomeMichGuy google the price of land in canada 1900-1920
@GuyWithOpinions And what else could that buy? You might not have an overall price index going back that far, but knowing what else the "one acre of land" amount of money could buy would be instructive.

If it's roughly what the cost of an acre today could buy, then you are looking at land's price being on pace with overall price rises.

In AB, though, I know that land values are distorted by policies which promote keeping farms together, so that land us artificially high there.
