Cargo seized by the Royal Navy from the Anne-Marie ship on 2 September 1807 has been opened in the National Archives for the first time.

The ship had set sail for Denmark from the Faroe Isles unaware that the second Battle of Copenhagen was underway and the British were planning to scuttle the Danish fleet to prevent it falling into the hands of Napoleon. Among the cargo of woollen stockings, dried fish, feathers, and a lot of letters, was a beautiful fine wool jumper accompanied by a note from Niels Winther:
"My wife sends her regards, thank you for the pudding rice. She sends your fianc茅 this sweater and hopes that it is not displeasing to her".
