History of Arminto pt. 3

One building still standing in Arminto is the Old Hall Place. Hall was a moonshiner. His wife threatened to leave him if he kept distilling in the house. He built a dugout out back and moved the operation into there. He and his partner did well delivering their product using horse and wagon. When automobiles became a going thing they decided to buy one to streamline the operation and make more money. They bought a new Buick and discovered that neither of them could operate it. So, off to Casper they went to find some young man who could drive. They hired an eighteen yr. old, who learned their route and did well for a bit
One day this man came to make the deliveries to find the Buick loaded with booze and ready to roll. Old Man Hall and his partner were in the dugout, so the young man locked them in. He delivered the hooch, pocketed all the money, and ditched the car in Casper. Never was the young man seen around these parts again. The men remained locked in the dugout untill they were found days later. Newspapers reported that they were "Slightly dehydrated, very hungry, and extremely inebriated, but otherwise alright."
I climb into the dugout sometimes. The beer vat is still there, probably because the government never could figure a way to get it out.
