Because if you can't read you become a worthless human being that can't support yourself.

Then you will definitely WANT to learn.

I am not even sure if I believe it is a real trend actually.

I believe it's real lol. My roommate's daughter is 12 and she really struggles to even form a sentence. She goes to a great school, her family is educated, etc. Something is just off with these new kids.
