The Department of Defense is soliciting troops to attend the June 14 UFC Freedom 250 event
The Department of Defense is soliciting troops to attend the June 14 UFC Freedom 250 event celebrating Donald Trump’s 80th birthday at the White House. Service members must pay their own travel and lodging costs, wear short-sleeve dress uniforms, and meet strict height, weight, and fitness standards to fill the stands.
Details of the military attendance include:
Cost: Travel expenses are "member-procured," with neither the Pentagon nor the UFC funding transportation or accommodations for the soldiers.
Appearance & Fitness: Internal memos require attendees to meet strict physical standards, including a specific waist-height ratio.
Uniforms & Rules: Attendees must be in uniform, are expected to sit in standing-room-only sections, and are not allowed to bring family members.
Ticket Sourcing: The Pentagon is emphasizing the selection of genuine UFC fans from junior enlisted and officer ranks.
The troops being recruited to attend the event, promoted as UFC Freedom 250, are junior enlisted personnel and junior officers, who comprise the U.S. military’s lowest pay grades. The Department of Defense is making clear to those being asked to attend that their travel costs are “member-procured” with neither the military nor the UFC funding travel and lodging costs.
message posted to social media for U.S. Air Force personnel indicated that anyone attending is required to meet height and weight requirements, in addition to passing physical fitness test requirements. Troops must wear short-sleeve dress uniforms and will watch the event in standing-room only sections. Only uniformed personnel are allowed to attend and cannot bring family members.
UFC CEO Dana White expects approximately 4,000 people to watch the event on the White House lawn. Thousands of other spectators will watch from a nearby viewing party.
