History repeating itself

I have been watching what has been going on for the last couple of weeks and I recalled this quote from Goerring. I am not a fan of Germany in WW2, but his remarks are as valid now as they were then.

--------
Why of course the people don't want war. Why should some poor slob on a farm want to risk his life in a war when the best he can get out of it is to come back to his farm in one piece? Naturally the common people don't want war neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship.

Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.”

Goes back further

What has been will be again - what has been done will be done again - nothing is new up under the sun.

Is there anything one can say -
Look this is something new -
It was here already, long ago

No one remembers the former generations, and even those yet to come
Will not be remembered by those who follow them.

Ecclesiastics 1:9-11

In today's world of education and technology many of the things are recorded and can be passed down from generation to generation. But as it stands now man still hasn't learned. And who are those who are forgotten who didn't make a mark to be remembered they too have repeated what has been done and those following them will repeat also.
