Ernie said it, it’s about racism. If it weren’t, Trump wouldn’t now be going after people here legally by deciding to change their status. I’d like to think people wouldn’t have voted for a man playing bait & switch with work visas that would affect their own loved ones.

This sort of thing started happening in Europe and South America, in 1920s.
It gave us Nazis, Fascists, Franco, Peron...
A hundred years later, it gave us Trump, Bukele, Orbán, and let's not forget Putin and Xi.
You get a power hungry con artist, who lacks brains and persuasion skills, who think they're saving the country and the world from the ills that have surely been eating it up. And he's got the answers.
It's always tempting to drag the army into cities.
In a democracy, we don't use the army, because nothing good will come out of it.
People are frustrated with crime rates in large cities, but the answer is to pick better local leaders, and staff properly with law enforcement that's truly color blind. It's what the people want, but the racists will pretend that they must bring in the big guns instead.

General William Devereaux (Bruce Willis): The Army is a broadsword, not a scalpel. Trust me, senator, you do not want the Army in an American city. Chief of Staff: But hypothetically... how long would it take you to deploy? General William Devereaux: You know we can't go in until the President invokes the War Powers Act.

@Pitchblue As someone once observed: no one ever lost money betting on the gullibility of the American people.
