@specman Okay who removed sex education in Mississippi, was it liberals?
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@specman I mean, how is it not? Y'all are the ones who wanted the parents to educate their kids about seх. If it had been left in the school curriculum, the kids would have had professional educators telling them about STDs and how to avoid them.

@SatanBurger wasn’t it a parent vote?
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
@specman So we're just going to ignore the GOP’s political focus on abstinence and pretend it was Democrats that wanted it?
2011 (HB 999) — This bill replaced comprehensive sex ed with “abstinence-only” or “abstinence-plus” programs under strict limits. It was authored and driven by Republican lawmakers and signed into law by Republican Governor Haley Barbour. While the final House vote shows that a majority of Democrats voted “yes” and a majority of Republicans voted “no,” the initiative itself came directly from the GOP’s long-standing abstinence-based policy goals

@specman
I'm pretty sure you can compare areas that have safe sex practices typically don't have the same issues as areas where certain education is banned. This shows a clear link between the two. Why you fighting so hard for kids to have stds? It's weird.
if you blame republicans for this then you must also blame democrats for murders and crime due to them making jail a revolving door and being soft on crime policies

@SatanBurger wasn’t due to the grooming of kids. The parents had a say too!

@specman Teaching sex education in schools isn't grooming behavior, it's part of healthy development in almost all around the world.
You also realize that the conservatives overly focused on grooming where there isn't end up to be in the news for grooming kids later in life. I'm not saying you're that person but typically people who overly project are usually doing something. So think about it.

@specman Not teaching kids about sex education is what leads to teen pregnancies and stds. Sorry but that's a consequence. The gop has always been against it and they're not democrats.
@SatanBurger again your blaming republicans only. You’re not concerned about the kids. You wouldn’t have made the post if you had to blame anyone else.
@SatanBurger anyone with any belief on one thing or another would be grooming or teaching their children to be that way. Societies problem is that they let the schools teach and discipline their children. Parents are to blame they are not taking their responsibility. So it’s not the republican to blame it’s the parents
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
@specman If the parents lack sex education themselves how do you expect them to teach their children lol some people are children when they have children plus not all parents are comfortable having that talk with their kids.
Let's say you're right and the parents wanted to do that themselves, how is it that have an explosion of stds in the first place if the parents are doing it? They're not is the easy answer.
The statistics themselves are pretty telling between countries and areas that have sex education in schools vs none. The results are always the same.

@SatanBurger be serious the parents know how to prevent pregnancy and they know how to prevent std. as far as not comfortable talking with their kids- that is their responsibility as a parent to talk to their kids. The problem with society is parents lack responsibility and let their children be raised by the world.
They lack family values. It’s the parents fault they are failing their kids.

@specman But even if it was the parent's failings the facts are that you're never going to be able to control how much each and every parent knows enough to teach their kids in the first place. You can't control that and you can't control parents refusing to teach their kids that. That's why we have school.
With statistics between places in the us and other countries, areas with sex education in schools are much better off than areas without. You can not like it all you want to but since you can't control everything, sex education should exist in schools

@SatanBurger a parent can raise their children to know about sex and the dangers associated with it . They can teach their children about drugs and how to avoid them they can and should instruct them they are responsible for their children. Why do you think the parents of the mass shooters that are kids are going to jail. It all boils down to responsibility

@specman
If there's any parallel to be drawn between your example of how we treat crime and your position on how we treat sex education, it's this. In both cases, people need education and counseling from a place you claim shouldn't have to give it. In the case of seх education, a lot of parents just don't have the wherewithal to teach their children the ins and outs (giggity) of how it works. It makes them super uncomfortable, particularly when their own parents were even worse about it. That's why having a professional teacher, whose job it is to teach about slightly uncomfortable things that make kids giggly, teach them about it is a good idea. And that's why stopping them from doing that is a bad idea.
if you blame republicans for this then you must also blame democrats for murders and crime due to them making jail a revolving door and being soft on crime policies.
I actually must not. Because you're comparing apples to oranges. You're saying that because we don't treat human beings enough like garbage to throw out, that's causing more crime.If there's any parallel to be drawn between your example of how we treat crime and your position on how we treat sex education, it's this. @LordShadowfire I feel the parents should teach their kids about those things. Be responsible for your children. Example as i used this point in other comments- parents are responsible for their children’s behavior that’s why the mass shooters parents that are children go to jail.
@LordShadowfire parents of mass shooters that are kids
@LordShadowfire I also want to say schools should also have sex education and kids whose parents don’t want them to take it their kids won’t take it. I really think that option should be there
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@specman I understand what you're saying, but we're seeing the practical, real world results of the state of Mississippi leaving it up to the parents. Now, it's easy to say that the parents should have done a better job of parenting, and I don't disagree. But the problem with that is that so many parents just don't know how to begin explaining to their precious innocent babies that they brought into this world how reproduction works. It goes against the grain, so to speak. So they put it off, because it's not comfortable. It's not meant to be comfortable. So what you end up with is kids learning on the playground from other kids, or from the internet, or as a worst case scenario, some perverted relative or family friend who wants to take advantage of their innocence.
That is why I say that even though it seems like I'm giving parents a pass on their one job, the people with the professional teaching certificates should be doing it.
Now, if, as you say, they offer an option of homeschooling children on that subject, they should give parents teaching guides to use to make it less awkward.

@LordShadowfire it was a little awkward not too bad for me, but I have boys. My exwife would have done it if we had girls. I could see how it would be awkward for a single parent with a different sex kid . You are correct!
