@HootyTheNightOwl in her case, yes. But a test shouldn't be necessary and there shouldn't have to be anything to be put to bed. And if you want to test something, at least test something that matters for performance.

Your suggestion is a good point though: transphobia doesn't just hurt trans people and cis women, it hurts everyone.

After all, we check all athletes suspected of doping rather than saying "They are at a disadvantage, so they don't matter". So, test all athletes and remove any hint of doubt about their gender.

Transphobes will hate that "Because this person is *clearly* [gender]". No, you bought this on yourselves.

The thing with testing for things that can affect performance is that it can be as basic as your body's natural hormone production. We all produce unique amounts of hormones, so you can still be born a man and have higher levels of female hormones in the same way a woman is a woman and have male hor.omes.

@HootyTheNightOwl exactly! So if it's about fairness, the class distinction should be about hormone levels rather than sex. (And/or other factors important to a particular sport.)

We all know none of these discussions are actually about fairness or safety though.
