Why is the Boston Mayor allowed to have a nonwhite only Christmas party paid for by white taxpayers?

Yeah, even democrats are saying it's racist garbage:
Democrat City Council member Frank Baker, who is white and was originally invited, also said: “I find it unfortunate that with the temperature the way it is, that we would further that division.”
My personal opinion is that the mayor probably isn't a bad person but I'd be highly uncomfortable with a woman who throws no whites allowed parties. It's not that I'm even judging her, I just wouldn't want it personally just because it would be a little weird for me.

That's kind of like a black person working for a mayor who hosted only all white parties I think. It's just an awkward situation all around.
@SatanBurger This seems more like just throwing people under a bus by opportunists.

First off she says in an article in the New York Times that the party has been going on for over a decade and she has only been mayor since 2021.

The various POCs on the city council have been having their own party for over ten years. I have worked lots of places where smaller sub groups have separate parties like for example managers and staff having separate parties.

This only became an issue because someone on her staff spammed the entire city council with invitations by mistake.

This one mistake left an opening for the hurt feelings brigade to pretend this is a huge controversy.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow Managers and staff seems different than race though. I don't think it's a huge controversy, I just get uncomfortable with race relations in general. It would be like working for a mayor who held only whites allowed parties or something, it would just be weird. Believe me, I'm not even offended by it but it does make me uncomfortable a tiny bit just because I don't really know if she thinks bad because of my "skin color" or if she's like that or what? I dunno. It's just the first thing that comes to my mind with people like that.

And it could be someone trying to throw her under the bus too, you can't tell me that those memos got accidentally leaked, it's more like someone wanted others to know probably.

If the party had been going on for nearly a decade then it's not even on her in the first place more likely.
@SatanBurger Like it or not. Racial minorities are still marginalized and was probably even worse over 10 years ago so it would be weird if they didn't want their own social activities.

Managers and staff are not the only social hierarchies regardless of whether they are formal.

And no it is not the same as "whites only" because whites are not routinely discriminated against in society at large.

To white conservatives it is just a skin colour thing because there are zero stakes for them. There are no downsides to being white in Boston of all places.

And yeah, this all started long before she was elected.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow I'm not arguing over anything like that because I agree with you. But you're in a work environment that is mixed race to begin with so not including people who WORK with you regularly in something simple as a holiday gathering seems petty. Seems like you want good relations with your coworkers, that kind of breeds distrust I think.
@SatanBurger Again it is only petty if you pretend everyone is treated equally and racism doesn't exist.

It starts from the assumption that all people get the same treatment as working class whites which has largely never been true. Particularly in place that is kind of famous for trying to hang on to all white spaces as long as possible.

You telling me that doesn't breed distrust?

Lets quit pretending everyone is treated equally.

@jackjjackson I am sorry if reality hurt your feelings.

But Boston not being a bastion of racial equality should surprise absolutely nobody.

You being a jackass surprises no one. @PicturesOfABetterTomorrow
@jackjjackson Not parroting back your own feelings at you doesn't make me a jackass.

If you just want your own reactionary feelings repeated back to you get ChatGPT to make you a little bot to stroke your ego.

You’ve done an exemplary job of displaying your vast superior knowledge of jackassery. @PicturesOfABetterTomorrow
@jackjjackson Again, all I did was actually do 5 minutes of research and presented the facts.

You started with a persecution narrative and worked backwards.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
I started this thread with the facts. You’ve been trolling it with lots of nonsense. The end. @PicturesOfABetterTomorrow
@jackjjackson Umm no. That is just straight up not true.

Even right wing outlets show you misrepresented what the situation was.
