Bibby Stockholm

no bigotry no ignorant posts no hate just please have a good honest discussion please

So the Bibby Stockholm had started to have immigrants put on for processing

The UK Government bought this barge but had it towed by Italians to the UK spent months being refurbished

Its meant to hold 250 people the Government are putting 500 people in

the Government keep saying its safe, cheaper than Hotels but have refused to allow free full access to the press and have kept the full details of the cost private

knowing how easily this government lie its just a disaster waiting to happen

The real problem is the fact from 2010 and austerity under this government immigrants aren't being processed very fast it takes at least 6 months

the problem is the government haven't got any safe routes unless you come from Ukraine or Hong Kong also with not many staff to process illegal immigrants the number is always going to go up

as for the new immigration bill all that tackles is legal immigration for people studying not to bring dependants, if immigrants who are here illegally who work, pay taxes have children born here would be deported, which also means anyone who was trafficked or modern slavery have no rights

the government also failed to negotiate any return deal with France as in with trade deals the UK government are desperate and agree to anything

so the first 50 illegal immigrants have arrived of which some haven't been taken there

its free for illegal immigrants to go to and from so how many days or weeks will it be before headlines immigrants disappear from Bibby Stockholm and the government making even more excuses

it makes it even more of a farce as the previous Home secretary was Priti Patel from India the Current Home secretary Suella Braveman also from India the current PM also from India all pushing an agenda which if was around when there parents arrived would block there parents from arriving

now all of this has come from Brexit taking away the deal we had with countries to send failed illegal immigrants back which the government knew which people smugglers know and have taken advantage of

until the government start to put resources into processing admit it stop using people with nothing as the problem nothing will change

so now we have more legal immigrants from other countries than the EU to cover the shortage of workers

I struggle to even understand the term illegal migration when applying it to asylum seekers.

The vast majority of those arriving in the small boats claim asylum. The majority of those seeking it are granted it (of those that the claims have been processed).

The government is only throwing all this nonsense around to disguise the fact that the backlog of asylum claims has continually grown year on year at an alarming rate.

The barge is another attempt but I don't see how that achieves anything. Get on and process the claims that will cut the hotel bill as tool not have 150,000 people stuck in the bloody system.

Taking a more wide spread view the answer surely is to stop the need, actually so something about cruel regimes, do something about the disparity in wealth so there's no reason to come to UK? But sadly the real answers are not the ones people want to engage with.

@OldBrit I know but its something the tory spin machine came up with to scaremonger

yes its now at an all time high as they've cut back on so many staff that they can't process that many whihc is the real problem as you say

the barge is just headline grabbing (oh look at what we are doing) rather than actually dealing with the ream problem, all they do is headline grabbing

there's a few other reasons too stop going on about how good the UK is when there's a world rescission, have more staff to process immigrants and also talk to countries and get agreements to send people back who fail asylum instead of this shouting down at other countries because the more that's done the more countries won't help
OldBrit · 61-69, M
@milkymum1 so today's figures claim 15,000 withdrawn cases. That's where they've "lost contact" with the applicant. Fgs unbelievable incompetence.
milkymum1 · 31-35, F
@OldBrit that really doesn't surprise me at all

The UK is a small country by livable area we cannot continue to take economic migrants because it's the right thing to do, it has to stop and that was supposedly one of the reasons for Brexit. The government needs to take control of who comes into the country now and whilst I don't agree with sending people to Rwanda a deterrent is needed so that people don't see the UK as the land of milk and honey.

@milkymum1
I have picked out your most pertinent points to respond to.

The problem is migration it is out of control.
In 2022, long-term immigration into the UK was an estimated 1.2 million. This is an estimated increase of 221,000 compared with 2021 (942,000). This 2021 figure has been revised upwards (from 895,000 to 942,000). Office for National Statistics.
also there are plenty of jobs that migrants will do which many Brits won't ever do
There are numerous problems with this:
1. The regulations need to be changed such that these British people will do them.
2. Migrants are entering the work force and many aren't competent to do the job (I'm thinking here of Social Care and can present a number of first hand examples of this).
3. Once migrants become second generation they are just as lazy as the work shy Brits.

The only think wrong with Brexit was there were no defined aims and people voted on what they thought would happen. Brexit has been compounded by Europeans but the French in particular adopting an aggressive stance to the UK causing numerous problems which we have neither sorted out or replied in kind to.
milkymum1 · 31-35, F
@GeniUs its not out of control though its reported that way as it scaremongers people into believing it, the UK hardly takes as many as any other country

Many Brits are lazy and won't do the jobs that many immigrants will do of which I've had RL experience where Brits at the job centre refusing to do jobs as its below them or I'm not making sandwiches etc

the news yesterday many UK companies offering work visas to immigrants but when they arrive here the jobs don't exist and they don't have enough money to go home so now rely on food banks

seriously Brits are just as lazy second, thrid or more generations who know how to work the system if anything there's probably as many Brits if not more bleeding the system dry

how can you blame the EU for something the UK did to itself, did you really expect countries to be nice after all the blame they got, you do know what is said has consequences, you can't bad mouth countries and then expect them to turn around and help

as for the French the deal was separate and why with as I said before would they help with the blame and disgusting words British politicians have been saying

But Brexit comes back to the UK and the MPs who didn't even read it yet voted it through and the same with the new immigrant laws why was it voted through without any way to send people back yet again it comes ab ck to the UK cheap headline grabbing scaremongering politics rather than actually sorting it out

@milkymum1
1. Clearly it is, the numbers come from the ONS which is a fact based QuANGO.
2. Does not answer my point.
3. Why would anybody do that? Link please.
4. See 2 already answered in prev comment. letting more people into the country exacerbates this problem.
5. I'm not blaming the EU for Brexit I'm blaming their lack of cooperation with a now non EU country for the problems. DO they treat the US, Canada, Australia, etc this way?
6. See 5.
7. Brexit was voted for by the people.

❤️ Yeah it's a sad joke and it needs to stop.
It's just the death knell of this government looking to be 'tough on crime'. Which is a standard Conservative flag waving thing when they think people are leaving the party in droves.

Can't understand why they want to moor it where it will have the least effect.
I mean if they put it in the channel it's a clear signal to smugglers; chancers AND in FULL VIEW of the country whose lazy irresponsible establishment is allowing this to happen, that
This is where you are going if you try it !
milkymum1 · 31-35, F
@Picklebobble2 its just an easy headline grabber and a PR stunt like you say to make out they are doing something
bhatjc · 46-50, M
Sorry to hear that.
