On CBS a senator said we're going to raise the retirement age because lifespans are still going up.

Why didn't the journalist mention the falling lifespans in the USA?

a deep dive into the statistics is probably going to show 2 things:

1. Once you reach 65, you're more likely to live longer than ever before

2. The death rate for "younger americans (16-40) is increasing. Due to drug overdoses, gun crimes, suicide . . . and this results in the overall averages falling.
