An egregious denial of due process for Jan. 6 protesters

People are in prison because of that cover-up.

For more than two years, footage that could have exonerated Jan. 6 defendants was kept from their legal teams.

Contrary to what apologists have been saying since the footage began airing, all this material has not previously been made available to the J6 defendants, some of whom have been jailed without trial for two years, in violation of their constitutional right to a fair and speedy trial.

Take the footage of so-called “QAnon Shaman” Jacob Chansley being escorted around the Capitol by police officers who help him open the door and enter the empty Senate chamber.

It is hard to reconcile these calm and even cordial scenes with the nearly four-year prison sentence Chansley now is serving for “obstructing an official proceeding.”

Grounds for appeal

New York lawyer Joseph McBride, one of the few heroes of this ugly saga, represents six J6 defendants and says a significant proportion of the 41,000 hours of surveillance footage was kept from his clients and should give them “grounds for appeal.”

Chansley lawyer Bill Shipley, also told Fox News legal analyst Jonathan Turley that his defense team “did not have this material.”

McBride says the J6 committee’s deceptions and pejorative comments about “MAGA Republicans” from President Biden “have poisoned the DC jury pool beyond repair,” which also is grounds for appeal.

“It is egregious the way these people have been treated, for as much as two years pretrial, before any finding of fact. When people find out what has been going on in the DC gulag, it is going to shock the American conscience forever,” the lawyer said.

A new book about the J6 prisoners, “Due Process Denied,” tells a tale of hell in the Washington, DC, “gulag,” the Central Detention Facility in southeast Washington where most have been housed.

Cynthia Hughes writes poignantly of one defendant who committed suicide rather than go back to jail.

The defendants have been kept in a separate unit with mold on the walls, brown water and generally unsanitary conditions, are subjected to 23 hours a day of solitary confinement, denied adequate food, medical treatment and religious services.

Their only solace is that every night at 9 p.m., they gather to sing the national anthem. These men have been imprisoned with no access to visits for over a year.”

Democrats cherry-picked footage and tailored the evidence to support their political witch hunt.

Their show trials were designed to “Give Democrats a Chance to Recast Midterm Message,” as The New York Times declared.

I disagree about the videos, but, regardless, many of the insurrectionists pleaded guilty!
RuyLopez · 56-60, M
@samueltyler2 Yes, and the vast majority of the charges are for trespassing. "Parading, demonstrating, or picketing in a Capitol building.' Doesn't sound like much of an insurrection to me. How long would you be able to afford to fight the federal government in court?
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@RuyLopez are you totally out of your mind? The most recent release of footage from the Senate office of a republican showed clearly the distraction involved! You also realize that when charged, there are usually charges for m the l adt to the highest. I doubt someone would get jail to me for just "parading, demonstrating or picketing!" Please stop spreading the big Lie!

@samueltyler2 Are you totally out of YOUR mind? Has anyone been charged with insurrection? Was there an armed revolt or insurrection? I will answer that for you, NO. It was a protest that got out of control and turned into a riot not an insurrection. Yes, there was violence and rioting. Those committing such crimes should be punished. They should also receive due process regardless if they are guilty. That means they should not be held without bail for two years waiting for a trial. I guess you are good with that though right?

But the fact is the the vast majority of those charged were charged with no violent crime at all, much less insurrection. The majority of those that have plead guilty are accepting charges of "Parading, demonstrating, or picketing in a Capitol building; Entering and Remaining in a Restricted Building; Disorderly and Disruptive Conduct in a Restricted Building (i.e. knocking over guide posts and roping); which are all basically substitutes for trespassing. No one has been charged with insurrection.

Here, look for yourself.

In fact The vast majority of the people involved had no intention of overthrowing the government. There was no coordination or leadership.
If was a mass protest.

If you want to understand what a true insurrection looks like you should read up on Shay's Rebellion. Stop spreading left wing propaganda and trying to suppress the truthful interpretation of what actually happened.

How long would you be able to fight the federal government if you were charged and brought to trial? Unless you have 10's of millions to throw away I wager it wouldn't be long. You might even plead guilty to try to save your family's finances.

@RuyLopez wow, you should read other sources and learn that some have already been found guilty of violent insurrection. How about the over 100 capital policemen who were injured?

You are the one who needs to get your head out from you know where. Watch Fox go down further. What can you believe out of Carlson's mouth, how about the former trump attorney admitting she lied? It is time you come to grips with what happened in the past 6-7 years!

By the way, what is today's date?
RuyLopez · 56-60, M
@samueltyler2 Check your watch. You obviously have no clue what you are talking about. Obviously you will not even attempt to grasp facts that don't support your delusional preference. The date of the link I sent you was Updated Feb 16, 2023. Fairly current wouldn't you say.

It is a database listing. Check it out. Play with it. Educate yourself. Name the people who were found guilty of violent insurrection? You don't have to name them all... just one would suffice. You can't because there are none. Seditious Conspiracy does not make an insurrection.

By my count about 16 people have been charge with sedition. From two insignificant radical right wing groups. The Oath Keepers and Proud Boys. They had no coordination with or control of the mob that rioted at the capital. The Capital Riots were no insurrection. Unless you consider an insurrection to be 16 people.

The FBI likely had more agent provocateurs in the crowd then the Oath Keepers and Proud Boys combined. I am trying to be respectful to you but if you want to get nasty I can go there real quick.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@RuyLopez you are playing semantics here. I haven't gotten nasty with you. Those who push the theory January 6, was only a visitors day have clearly not watched the videos. Particularly now how anyone can say that is beyond me. I will stop before i do lose my cool and say what I think about you and those of you who can't see the facts before their eyes. How much video did the admitted liar Carlson show of the 40k hours of videos? If he had good proof that what we all saw was fake, would he have kept that from us, be real man!
