Great idea but it isnt going to happen. Americans are too insecure and unstable to go through life without a gun close by..😷

@whowasthatmaskedman Whatever the challenge we should fight the gun industry and their paid-off politicians and do all we can for a federal assault weapons ban.

I can remember when AR-15-type assault weapons and their ilk were not available to the public. In the 1970's I used to go to the shooting range. Almost all guns were civilian sporting rifles and shotguns. Most handguns were revolvers and civilian semi-auto pistols.

Now highly dangerous military-style weapons with large capacity magazines are common. These military-grade weapons have made shootings much deadlier. Many more people are going to be killed and maimed by these weapons of war, unless we force Congress to take action.

@badminton I dont want to be misunderstood on this... Its way too important. I agree with every word you said. On Principle.. But the trouble is that guns and their owners are not bound by principles, and a dead child wont stand up and walk away because they were shot by someone unethical or misunderstood. There are simply too many guns in America to remove them from the people who would do wrong with them and saying anything else is p*$$ing into the wind. Guns are in America to stay. That leaves you with two types of American parents. Those who are willing to leave to get their kids out of the kill zone. And those who are willing to risk it.. Its that brutal and that simple...😷

get their kids out of the kill zone.
How does one recognize a 'kill zone'? And how does society prevent the entire country being regarded as one?
@badminton there is something wrong in the psyche of America that guns have become so beloved. It's not about the hunting rifles or the handgun kept in a desk or night table for protection, although the NRA is forever scaring gun owners that those things will be taken away. It's about so many Americans enjoying owning weapons of war, weapons made to kill quantities of people quickly.
People owning whole arsenals of guns under the pretense of right to protect themselves when it's actually all about the thrill and excitement they feel to see them, hold them, fire them. This is truly an 'only in America' thing.
I don't understand it.

@whowasthatmaskedman Sometimes we just have to stand up and be counted, even if chances of success, at present, seem remote.

The U.S. used to have slavery, but eventually it was outlawed. There used to be child labor, but eventually it was outlawed. People at the time probably thought it would never happen, but it did. Sometimes we just have to take up the challenge, regardless of the odds.

@ninalanyon Now you are asking the right questions.. And my aswer is that any place in America not surrounded by TSA type security is a kill zone.. And how can you stop a bullet crossing into a secure area from outside? You cant.. Being "safe" inside America requires you to be a virtual prisoner in your own country. Choosing that risk for yourself is fine.. But if you have kids or family to protect, thats a whole other issue.. The only way to protect effectively is to pack up and go.. Leave the country to the walking dead. Yes. I know its overly dramatic.. But if this goes on........😷

@badminton I admire your principles.. I hope you never have to stand over the casket of a family member for them..😷
Like people don't stab and blow each other up.😂@whowasthatmaskedman

@whowasthatmaskedman says who ????
I have a right to protect myself
If someone armed and trained was at these incidents the outcomes would be different

@Spoiledbrat A person with a knife is a threat to one or two people close by. And last time I looked, they didnt sell C4 at Walmart. And it was an offence to own it without a reason.😷

@whowasthatmaskedman I'm too old to immigrate to another country. Besides, for good or ill, the USA is my country. I want to make it better.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@pdockal But they werent.. And people died. And in the Colorado Springs shooting it would have been way worse but for UNARMED people attacking him at risk of everything themselves. My hat off to them.. But it doesnt change the fact that you can be in a club, a bar, McDonalds. A movie or a school or Church and this can happen. Because there are simply too many guns in American society and the only answer anyone has is "more guns". If you want to feel your kids are safe, kevlar packpacks are not the answer. Raising them elsewhere is...😷

@robingoodfellow I don't fully understand the love of military guns either. I do know it is a minority of people. Maybe psychologists could come up with a diagnosis. The important task now is to restrict access to military-type weapons and their ammo.

some Americans have forgotten with Freedom comes Responsibility.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@badminton And I sincerely hope you do. I just dont see a way thats happening.😷
pdockal · 56-60, M
@badminton
Do you understand the importance of the 6th amendment ?????????
You CAN'T disarm me
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@pdockal Says a piece of paper.. But there is the "Cold dead hands" clause....😷

@Majorsite I dont really like it either. But that doesnt make me wrong.. I cant see Americans willingly giving up their guns, full stop.. But ultimately the day will come when someone will make an offer they cant refuse to those who dont.😷
