Well, I think it would be a good thing, but we're not going to get it, and even if it got through Congress or Biden massively overreached and tried to do it by executive fiat, it would get knocked down by the Courts.

I'm not even sure it's worth posturing with in the Senate at this point, but I'm sure it's not a hill that's worth trying to take right now given how well defended it is.

@MistyCee Even with a Republican-controlled House that will block every sane gun control measure, there is something Democrats can do:

Every time there is another shooting, Democrats have to point the finger at the R's in the House and Senate and say loudly as possible, "Blood is on their hands! They take blood money from the gun industry " and keep saying it. President Biden should use the bully pulpit of his office to keep denouncing the R's that block urgently needed gun safety laws.
@badminton I get the bully pulpit thing, but I also hope Biden will be wise about using and abusing it.

My guess is, he (or his successor) might do far more to actually reduce gun violence by staying in office long enough to appoint judges who'll "fix," by clarifying, distinguishing, or even reversing Heller, McDonald and Bruin, as opposed to rallying Dems to put up legislation that won't pass or pass muster.

As much as I think it's bullshit, the gun advocates have some "good" or at least persuasive and powerful points in their favor.

The biggest of which, imo, is that the root of problem is inanimate objects, but man's inhumanity towards man, and while I liked the assault weapons ban back in the 90s, I'm really getting to see how putting bandaids can also lead to complications and how easily they can be removed.

When you take guns, or even talk about it, gun sales go up, and you fuel the folks who feel like they need them to overcome their own insecurities and inadequacies.

Don't get me wrong. I don't think making mass murder harder is a bad thing, but we're living in an age where vast portions of the country think that mass murders are false flag publicity stunts, and Antifa and the FBI were behind the 1/6 attack, no matter how litlle sense those ideas seem to make to others.

I'm, sorry, but pushing for NOW, just doesnt make sense to me.

Trumpist influenced Republicans will oppose anything supported by Biden or Democrats, and as much as I think that life, liberty, and property ought to be protected by every government official, realistically, as a country, we don't agree about the details on how those things should be protected, and a lot of Americans, Americans who vote, distrust the government to protect them (and their stuff), and want to be ready to shoot it out with libs, communists, Feds, etc, and at the moment, the so called "Conservative" movement is in bed with them.

Honestly, I think the better approach, at the moment is to keep the government running, deal with the economic and foreign policy issues, and not let sane leaders die for the sake of this hill.
