With the gift of hindsight, I wonder if they actually were worried about Communists during the Red Scare. Maybe it was like today, where they just used the fear of Communism to win elections.

@BohoBabe I'll go with whipping up irrational fear of communism to win elections. Communism was never a threat in the U.S. The Communist Party USA couldn't at any time get even 1% of the vote.

@badminton And while the Soviet Union was a terrible authoritarian dictatorship, they were busy with their own cold war against China. Neither country liked America, but they weren't concerned with us at the time.

It was the United States fear of Communism that caused them to support brutal right dictatorships in other countries.

Sad to see what’s happening in the US, regressing and probably the final nail in the coffin with midterm elections unfortunately
