How hard are some minimum firearm rules

For example:

Have red flag laws
Raise gun and ammo age for purchase to 21
Limit clip sizes
Have some type of qualification in place in order to buy semi auto weapons
Restrict types of ammo. What is being used is more lethal than legitimately needed for sport and even home protection

These seem like no brainers that infringe on a minimum scale

It’s not like every American can get cleared by qualified therapist whatever that is to be a safe gun owner. Can’t make people go. Quality of therapists vary wildly and they have biases. Who pays them? How much? Even if cleared today the person could be a good faker like the polygraph passing liars or have an overnight or later change and become a nut

I don't personally agree with banning ppl with psych issues from owning guns bc I fear it punishes ppl for seeking help, but if we did, we could very easily pay for that through Medicaid lol.

Personally, I'd like to mandate volunteer work, gun safety training (including storage), and a background check for people seeking gun ownership. With great power comes great responsibility, and the law should reflect that.

Seems overall reasonable and prior testing, etc. should count.

The psychological issue must directly relate to potential to inflict harm on others. If the person wants to hurt her or himself fine.

@jackjjackson honestly, suicide risk shouldn't be a reason for barring someone from owning guns. If an adult wants to blow their head off, they should be allowed to do it.

@BlueVeins EXCEPT so many who do take others with them. Spouses, children, etc. I believe we have that right over our own lives, but too many kill others en route ...esp with guns.
BlueVeins · 22-25
@Neoerectus Right, I'm just sayin' we should only target potential murders, not potentially suicidal people.

@BlueVeins to be honest, going by what I see on this site, if you used psychological disorders as a means of prohibiting gun ownership, then you'd be banning most citizens of Murica

@BlueVeins What prior steps do you envision for people exercising their first amendment rights? Should they clear their religious choice with the government? Should they have government training before they post on line? How about freedom of assembly, should they submit a list of potential friends for approval? Is there a limit on the number of friends?Redress of grievances; isthere a legitimate list of things one can complain about?

No limit on airing of grievance for Frank Costanza. @redredred

Why is it that words are removed from dictionaries? The do not become non words in reality. @redredred

@BlueVeins Here in Michigan , everyone has to go through a NICS background check before buying any gun from a legitimate dealer. A "permit to purchase" ( including background check) and be 21 years old, must be obtained before purchasing a handgun. A comprehensive course , including range time, and fingerprints must be taken before getting a CPL and again be 21 years old. Young hunters have to pass a safety course before getting their first hunting license, and even then they have to hunt with an adult until they are 18. The media always ignores this and makes it sound like dealers hand out weapons to anyone with cash.
