Why isn't China criticized for not condemming Russia?

What is China's position? It hasn't really been reported much in the US media. China wants to be a major player in the world community. It is the second largest economy in the world. Maybe China is ok with redrawing other countries' bounaries with military force like in the "good old days". Why does China get a free pass on all this? If they joined in on the economic and diplomatic pressure againt Russia it would go a long way toward resolving this peacefully and also preserving the legitimate sovereignty of Ukraine. Or are their thoughts more about Taiwan?

As two of the most powerful communist countries in the world. China will always back Russia no matter if it is right or wrong.

@Northerner Except during the later stages of the Vietnam War when Russia took over. Since then Russia and China have had their own disputes despite shared Marxist philosophies. Mao killed 40 million people in the 5 years prior to sponsoring the Noth in Vietnam. The US tried to stand up to that killing machine and somehow ended up being the "bad guys".

Now, of course, Russia has morphed into more of an oligarchy. This structure has some similarities to National Socialism.

@irishmolly72 I think China does what is in their interests at any given time. China is at the moment sinking into economic black whole , so they try not to get involved more then needed. One can only stop Russians with arms, sanctions are a joke.

@Khenpal1 I don't think that sanctions fully supported by Europe, the US and China/Japan/India would be a joke. Japan is already joining in as I undestand it.

@Khenpal1 They are at least a statement and a first step. One that could possibly save hundreds of thousands of lives. Military engagement is not precluded by them.

@Khenpal1 I guess I disagree. They will care if we get a large, strong coalition. Granted that will be extremely difficult, but it's worth a try. Given enough time and pressure there could eventually be a coup against Putin. I know it's a long shot.
