WTG Canada!

Effective today, Canada has banned "Conversion Therapy, advertising conversion therapy and profiting from conversion therapy"! At least Canada has had the guts to ban this heinous practice that has damaged many young lives.

Edited to include the following:

Bill C4 has been approved by both Houses of Canada, Parliament and Senate:

Bill C4 adds the following four offenses to the Criminal Code of Canada, punishable with jail time up to five years as well as fines:

(a) causing another person to undergo conversion therapy;

(b) doing anything for the purpose of removing a child from Canada with the intention that the child undergo conversion therapy outside Canada;

(c) promoting or advertising conversion therapy; and

(d) receiving a financial or other material benefit from the provision of conversion therapy.”

There is more to the bill than just about gay people : that is bad alright.

but when underage kids are totally confused and may take steps without the parents knowledge, it is another thing

@revenant Start your own post about "Gender Identity" if you wish, this post has nothing to do with that, it is about "Conversion Therapy" for LGBT people and Canada has intelligently created a law banning it. You are allowed to disagree with the law and can state your case but keep your rants about Gender Identity to a post of your own.

@Graylight She's trying to equate the banning of "Conversion Therapy" with Bill 89 in Ontario Canada which permits a child to choose their own gender identity even if the parents or guardian disapproves. This is a standard dog whistle by Conservatives, OMG they're going to take our children away because we don't approve of their gender identity! One has absolutely nothing to do with the other which is why I told her to start her own post about GI if she's so worried about it...

@Graylight Which is exactly the case here, Conversion Therapy is a harmful practice usually done by Conservative Christians to attempt to brainwash the gay out of their children whether the children agree or not. Many have either attempted or committed suicide after undergoing this heinous practice, that's why the Government of Canada banned it. What's really funny is that the Bill 89 she's so upset about was enacted by a Conservative Government in Ontario but she blames the "looney leftists", oh well...

@revenant This is where you are wrong, there is no "Slippery slope" to the Legislation banning "Conversion Therapy", it is a despicable practice and should be banned as it attempts to force young people to change their sexual orientation by brainwashing due to the religious beliefs of the parents.

You attempted to include your own objections to the "Gender Identity" discussion which has nothing to do with "Conversion Therapy", one simply has nothing to do with the other. I too would have some doubts about that whole situation and young teenagers deciding on their Gender Identity but that is an entirely different subject to this one.
