WTG Canada!

Effective today, Canada has banned "Conversion Therapy, advertising conversion therapy and profiting from conversion therapy"! At least Canada has had the guts to ban this heinous practice that has damaged many young lives.

Edited to include the following:

Bill C4 has been approved by both Houses of Canada, Parliament and Senate:

Bill C4 adds the following four offenses to the Criminal Code of Canada, punishable with jail time up to five years as well as fines:

(a) causing another person to undergo conversion therapy;

(b) doing anything for the purpose of removing a child from Canada with the intention that the child undergo conversion therapy outside Canada;

(c) promoting or advertising conversion therapy; and

(d) receiving a financial or other material benefit from the provision of conversion therapy.”

dunno what exactly it is about...but it is also banning parents to talk with their children

@revenant How does banning repressive psychological torture prevent parents from talking to their children? In fact most "conversion therapy" is done far away from the parents and in hiding so IT would in effect prevent parents from talking to their children and not banning it.

but on the other hand it allows conversion therapy from schools....without the parents' knowledge.The new ideology is ok then.

I think it has become "criminal" for a parent to refute a kid's so called preference. But I will have to look that up

I don't think we're talking about the same thing here? "Conversion Therapy" [b]doesn't[/b] happen in schools, nor is it condoned in schools that I know of? 🤔

@revenant That's ridiculous. I'd need to see a citation. You're saying if a kid tells their parent that they might be gay, and the parent says "maybe you're just confused," the parent can go to jail?

@LeopoldBloom I do not know what would happen. But yes it would be considered criminal.Now already children have the rights to consult and get hormones without their parents' knowledge and consent.

That is complete and utter BS, Canada also has a "Charter of Rights and Freedoms" which enshrines the right to religious beliefs so no parent would be going to jail for simply talking to their child unless they were abusing their child. Another dog whistle from Conservatives who can't accept that children may have a mind of their own and that they should be able to choose their own Gender Identity, even over the parents objections. Personally I don't think this should happen without counseling and some serious discussions which is what is happening.

@spjennifer I’m just pointing out that bans on reparation therapy apply to licensed therapists. You can’t stop bigots from expressing their views, but you can stop them from doing it under official cover.
