The Saudis got oil. The afghan does not

@SupportVectorMachine True but the Saudis do and they’d probably turn off the US supply in a conflict.
SupportVectorMachine · 36-40, M
@DancesForJabba Agreed. That's a good insight.
Iwillwait · M
@DancesForJabba ..then why did we not take the oil?
hunkalove · 70-79, M
The excuse was that bin Laden was hiding out in caves in Afghanistan. He might have been but by the time we invaded he was probably already safely in Pakistan, our friends whom we give billions of $$ to. It was an excuse to enrich the military-industrial complex. That's all.
Kumbayakid · 61-69, M
You’re old enough to figure this out yourself, no?
SupportVectorMachine · 36-40, M
Mineral rights. Afghanistan had trillions of dollars worth of minerals specifically rare earth metals that China has a stranglehold on.

That civil war largely ended with the Taliban in the mid 90s so it is kind of a meaningless distinction.

No evidence? You are kidding right? This has been common knowledge for literally decades. The Taliban and all these groups are all splinters off of the original Mujahideen which was never a single unified group. Infighting doesn't change that. And before the Taliban it was the Northern Alliance running things that make the Taliban look like moderate democrats.

You also completely ignored the fact they were perfectly okay with handing him over in accordance with diplomatic norms. But again Bush wanted to be a war president so he dragged the country and NATO into a decades long meat grinder.

You also made the false claim the Taliban was a threat outside their own borders. That has never been true in their 30 year existence.

The Americans believed that the Taliban were harboring Bin Laden, and Al Qaeda training camps.
Because Saudi Arabia owns the US government.
Shaveit · 61-69, M
Too many Democrats have money invested in Saudi Arabian oil.
hunkalove · 70-79, M
@Shaveit Exactly wrong. The Bush family has been in cahoots with the Saudis for several generations. Dubya even made sure bin Laden's relatives got a free ride out of the country on a private jet.
Shaveit · 61-69, M
@hunkalove the bushes don’t count
They were dems in Republican clothing
Scarfface · 46-50, M
I think they was Taliban and the Taliban stronghold was in Afghanistan and that's where bin Laden was hiding.
The terrorist in chief was considered an honorary member of the Bush family. That says all you need to know.
Dolimyte · 41-45, M
They felt like getting shot at by the guns that they gave to the Taliban to fight the Soviets back in the 80's.

Just a big load of money-making bs

cause intelligence, the military and the government have a relationship triangle that isn't working out.
But rather than fix their shit they take it out on others.

that trio needs counseling.
