Off topic: {as that idiot MelanieUK has blocked me} ...the NHS should be done away with and free health care should only apply to 3rd generation WW2 veterans
DaySpider · 22-25, F
@BigGuy2 Bit random?
BigGuy2 · 26-30, M
@DaySpider ... Nope, she made a comment via a pic on MelanieUK’s stream, I couldn’t leave the comment on her stream because she blocked me, hence why I phrased it like that, {in brackets} on Harriet03’s stream

@BigGuy2 No I saw that in posts coming up in my feed I mean the 3rd-gen veterans thing because it's practically everybody anyway. Or that the point?
BigGuy2 · 26-30, M
@DaySpider apologies, after WW2, the Government suggested free healthcare for all as a thank you for veterans for fighting the War, the veterans have all but died, so 3rd generation only ...

BUT

... thinking about it now, you may be right
DaySpider · 22-25, F
@BigGuy2 That wasn't really why the NHS was founded (though it may have been an incentive, absolutely).

But a 3rd-generation veteran, is someone whose grandparents fought in the war (or at least were old enough to be involved in the war effort, which of course has to deserve equal reward, even if not old enough to actually pick up a rifle)....is me, and I'm 21. It's also in essence every person my age.
BigGuy2 · 26-30, M
@DaySpider ... it was why it was founded ... I nearly quoted the rationale behind it
BigGuy2 · 26-30, M
@DaySpider ...Nope, 3rd generation from them
BigGuy2 · 26-30, M
@DaySpider ... you don’t come out of a 6 year War and then say, “free healthcare for all”, that’s the reason it was founded, not an incentive
DaySpider · 22-25, F
@BigGuy2 Actually, that's exactly what happened. The Beveridge Report came out in 1942 (I think? Can't be bothered to google), recommending what in essence the Labour govt did after 1945 in the creation of a universal welfare state. It was explicitly framed as a response to *everyone's* sacrifices, but had been in discourse for a long time already (Beveridge had been writing about the welfare state since the 1910s)

@DaySpider ... well said, finally a person from youth with common sense
DaySpider · 22-25, F
@BigGuy2 it's all the free-at-point-of-use healthcare and education I expect
