any kind of soap will work. Lye soap is harsh, we had that on the farm for when we ran out of other soap and couldn’t get into town to buy more yet.

@being It's widespread on the west coast, it's not an oak, got the name from a leaf pattern.

I can see how maybe it would help draw the oils out of the skin, but it doesn’t ease the discomfort completely.

@nonsensiclesnail Removing the oils is the important part. Some of the sissy soaps we have won't do it. Once the oils are gone the rash is usually short lived.

@UnderLockDown interesting! I’ll have to give that a try if I run into poison oak again. I’m a soap maker so it won’t be difficult to come by.
