I'll never understand exactly what people hate so much about the early sunset and nightfall of fall and winter.

I find it so relaxing and calming. It's such a cozy feeling not being opressed by daylight until 8 or 9 o clock. Dark at 6 pm is the bomb. Gives you a few hours of cozy relaxing darkness before going to bed without having to stay up till midnight. I don't gwt what is so great about daylight in the late evening hours, it's exhausting and anxiety inducing.

I live in western upper, lower michigan. Very near to lake michigan. In the late fall months, moisture tends to start to gather over the lake, resulting in cloud cover. We seldom have sunny days during winter. When those occations do arise, the likelihood of the temps being sub zero is high.
So...those long days of sunlight, in my existence, are prized.

@Carla Maybe from your descriptions of extreme winter weather

@MethDozer ahhh...
Close enough to share.

If you work indoors it sucks because you end up being inside all day with no sun. I don't mind it but in the dead of winter it gets oppressive. Enjoy the short days at first though.

@CountScrofula the Alaskan winter sounds boss af to me.

i don't care what time the clock says it is...
i find my irritability is at it's highest around the summer solstice. it has 14 hr.s, 6 min.s, and 45 seconds of daylight. my melatonin suffers hard!

the winter solstice has only 10 hr.s, 10 min.s, and 56 seconds of daylight. it's my fave day and night of the year 💜 nice and cold and dark!
MethDozer · M
@SW-User I very much in tune with this vibration.

Imagine living in Alaska during the 24-hour day summers.

Union workers working and traveling in the dark.
Dino11 · M
@MethDozer They have to travel long distances to get to work.
MethDozer · M
@Dino11 I don't think that is a strictly union thing. Besides driving at dark is better since the roads are less congested.

@MethDozer Not in CA

It's because it means the cold is right around the corner and I'm NEVER ready for winter.
MethDozer · M
@calicuz Summer sucks ass.

I didn’t care until I got a dog. Kinda sucks doing anything past 5 PM walk wise.
Being out running errands after work, especially on foot or on public transportation was a drag in the dark. That’s why I didn’t love the days getting shorter.
MethDozer · M
@bijouxbroussard I'm a strange weirdo. I like going out in general under the cover of dark. Less people around and I always feel like I'm not being noticed.
I like how the light and shadows change.
MethDozer · M
@CopperCicada yessss
It gets dark @ 5. That's a little early for me but 6 is good.
TrunkZ · 56-60, M
Oppressed by daylight? 😏😏
MethDozer · M
@TrunkZ absolutely.
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
If it didn’t get so damn cold where I live I wouldn’t mind as much but it does
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
@MethDozer It’s brutal and yes they do. My kids missed 12 days of school due to the cold and snow and we don’t shut down for a skiff of snow and cold. It’s hazardous to travel because it’s so cold.

I just hate it so much 😭😭😭
MethDozer · M
@iamonfire696 Yeah, I don't think I would either unless I was in a cabin with zero adulting responsibilities outside of home
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
@MethDozer I try not to leave my house often during winter 🤣
