I agree...assuming there aren't any forest fires happening in the BC interior, then it's mid 20's Celsius with half a mile visibility in thick smoke from which there is no escape from.
Let's not jinx your west coast climate by boasting about "the best climate on the planet" until fire season is over, or else people might think you're American!

@swirlie we always have forest fires, that is inevitable. and yes sometime the smoke ventures into the lower mainland but that really hasn't happened in a couple of years (severely anyway) right now i see the crystal blue sky...but i do think about my friends in the interior

... Vancouver had the worst air quality on the planet just last year, which lasted for almost a full month!

@swirlie i guess we got lucky that it lasted only one month...there are countries/cities where it is the worst for years/decades/forever... we are fortunate...tap water tastes great too

So be honest, we've been watching the smoke moving south from overhead T.O. for a month now which is coming down from The Peg area, but we're not smelling anything in the air. It seems to be up hanging up high, yet it hangs in the lowlands and valleys in the mornings like high humidity on a still day.

I remember when Kelowna burnt from one end of town to the other and the only road in and out was blocked from traffic. I guy I know from Vancouver in the real estate development business, bought a place on the lake in Kelowna, had it fully restored and he was only moved in by about a month before his place burnt to the ground along with many others. Now he's back in downtown Vancouver living in a rented apartment with his aging parents. 🫣

@swirlie that was a terrible time. i have a friend who lives in the interior in a small town. they are on pins and needles every summer...if a fire broke out near their home they are screwed,,,, the rents here are astronomical even though they are coming down a bit...even as one ventures out in the valley to places like abbotsford, mission or chilliwack it aint cheap. i know toronto isnt cheap, what about your area?

I own my own condo in downtown Toronto right on the lakeshore near Yonge Street and Union Station. If I were to rent my own condo from myself, I'd have to pay myself $3.00 per square foot which is the going rent in my area, though there really aren't any rental units designed as 'rentals' in the area that I live.
Some people bought condos and then rented them out, so that's where the rental market is coming from.
An average bachelor condo is about 500 square feet in the downtown area and the average 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom unit is about 1000 square feet x $3.00 per sf (per month).

@swirlie i'm paying 3400 for a 2 bedroom, 1 bath bungalow but with a big yard (you saw that yesterday) and that is 30 minutes or so from downtown. i thought you were in rural ontario.

Oh, I was born and raised in rural Ontario! ...(Leamington, down by Windsor/Detroit) and I travel there frequently from April to October to help out with my parent's market gardening enterprise when they get busy. Then I hang out with old friends on Lake Erie and Lake Huron who still live and work in that same area. The apartment rents in Chatham Ontario (near London) are $1.00 per square foot!
Your bungalow would likely be about 2000 square feet, I am guessing...

@swirlie yeah something like that. i was living in a 2 bedroom 1 bath condo a year ago where i was paying 1680. that was dirt cheap but i lived there for 20 years so rents could only go up so much. the person below me who moved in with the exact same layout was paying 2500...when i gave my notice they were gonna gut the place and remodel it. i wonder what it would be now....here is my old place...

To be honest, these apartment photos reflect a very early `80's vibe throughout, based on the style of kitchen cupboards they used, according to my architectural design sense! The kitchen appliance style for the fridge and stove are from the early 1990's which is when that style first came out and I think they're GE appliances.

@swirlie good eye...that about sums it up...the appliances were only the second to happen. i actually miss that place and it's location....but i don't regret moving where i did now...
