My dad owned a residential construction company. He told me the summer between first and second grade that I was going to work with him every day. I was going to clean up all of his new houses daily and I could have a dollar a day and he happy or get my butt kicked and do it for free. My dad didn't make idle threat's. I took the dollar. I moved up over the years and by the time I graduated highschool I was lead carpenter on a deck crew.

@rinkydinkydoink You would be correct. I missed a lot of my childhood. When we would come home from work I got to hear what my friends had done that day. Later as a teenager if I asked for a weekend off to go camping with friends, even if he said yes, if a small job like a sun deck or basement finish came in on the Thursday before he would tell me I wasn't going camping that weekend. I was going to work.

In the summers before and during college I did hard labor installing post and rail , plank and board and stockade fencing. Using a post hole digger and 20 lb tamping bar, 10 hrs a day 6 days a week , I was cut. Minimum wage was $ 3.10 an hr and I was making $ 9.50 an hr. The boss would get pissed at me because I'd be working with no shirt on and women would be driving by cat calling me. He got really pissed one day when we were working in a very exclusive part of southern Ohio called Indian Hills . The homes are estates on 10-15 acre or more lots with huge houses . A beautiful lady in her 30' s had drove by several times in her convertible Mercedes when she came by again she stopped and gave me 3 bottles of Soda. It was a three man crew. I didn't tell him that she invited me to go swimming after I got off work. Of course I accepted , didn't want to rude.LOL

Paperboy, pumped gas, restaurant kitchen help, summer caretaker in schools, deli clerk at supermarket, banquet waiter(1shift hated it).
LunarOrbit · 56-60, M
@rinkydinkydoink Well….I wasn’t good balancing a tray of glasses and cups on my shoulder after clearing off the pre dinner appetizer/drink tables and the leftover partially filled red wine glasses spilled all over my white shirt. I had to work the whole shift with a wine soaked shirt. I was sooooo embarrassed, I quit and didnt even stick around to get paid.

Not a paper round, but I did deliver leaflets for god knows what - I can't remember now - for a couple of years, whenever there were sales, for - like - £35 for 1,000 leaflets.
1,000 letterboxes per time...that's a lot of walking!

I put the bongs in the heads for 10 hrs/ day
Patriot96 · 56-60, C
@rinkydinkydoink it was a barrel reconditioning plant on southside of Chicago. Nasty, it was closed down by epa.
The head is the top of a 55 gallon steel barrel
The bongs are the small threaded plugs that screwed into the head

I ran a roadside vegetable stand at the end of our farm laneway every summer as a teenager.
Mowing lawns, raking leaves, shoveling snow, working the concessions trailer when the midway came to town.
