I Like Thunderstorms

It took me years, though, to start enjoying them again. In 2002, a tornado destroyed my house. My family and I were in the house, and we were lucky to survive. I still remember it clearly. I have never been more frightened. My neighbors, an older couple who treated my sister and me like grandchildren, were both killed. Many other people died, too. It took many months to rebuild, and even longer to overcome my fear of thunderstorms. Now they don't bother me as much. Hard rains help me relax. Lightning still bothers me a bit. After the tornado passed, I remember the lightning resembled a strobe light in the sky. Lightning still causes my heart to race, but I calm down quickly.

The freakiest part of it for me at the time were the sirens. The sirens were scarier to me than the threat the tornado posed. I could hear them (couldn't hear the tornado nor actually see it myself) and they were loud.
