Spring awakenings

Last night I went to sleep with with my window open, it was warm enough, and I heard the lilting sound of peeper frogs out in the marsh in the distance.

At 3 AM I'm driving down the highway with the windows up, the radio on and a tractor trailer next to me when I heard....peeper frogs?
I shut the radio, rolled down the window. There must have been millions of frogs out there in the swamp along the highway. They drowned out even the noise of that tractor trailer. Absolute Spring magic. ✨

Ours start shortly before May. Their fervent chorus is enchanting. Pure magic.
Soon after, the fireflies come out.

Every now & again, a tractor trailer downshifts, exiting the freeway.
The growling of its motor trails off on the night air.

This is the sound of summer.😌

We had a really warm night where we raised the windows and I fell asleep (something I haven't been doing well lately) while listening to a rainstorm. It was heavenly..
Till waking up to a 30° morning. 😳🥶

It's coming tho. Patience.😌
@moonlightlullaby I'm sorry you haven't been feeling well, Moonlight. I hope better days are coming for you. I know your favorite time of year will be on us soon

@robingoodfellow Thank you, but I meant to word it as in the rainstorm/fresh air helped me sleep and it was awesome because I haven't been sleeping well.
Sorry, I do appreciate your kindness though. 🤗
@moonlightlullaby no I'm sorry, I read it wrong. But I'm happy you were rocked to sleep 🙂

I love hearing them too, and seeing them. Sadly, that has become rare where I live. Their numbers have declined greatly, due to several factors. This is especially true for treefrogs.
@Piper Here the rich pay for aerial spraying because they don't like mosquitoes, and then all the frogs die off. Now they put up signs asking if anyone has seen any sign of this frog or that while the planes fly over crop dusting. It's sad how the rich destroy the earth.
@Piper @PoohSmasher
over 40% of species threatened with extinction due to human-driven factors. So much life on earth disappearing because of us.

@PoohSmasher that is so pathetic. It makes me appreciate my space where I don't even cut much grass so that more insects and whatever biosphere can thrive as much as possible. Last year was such a drought that there were very view mosquitos and consequently very view dragonflies. I pulled a dying bat from my water collector and they are in big trouble here too
That’s the sound i associate with deep summer. Beautiful
@soulrespite one of the best things about Spring and Summer is being outdoors late and listening to the night sounds. The night is so alive
Must be lots of bugs to support them too.
