I’m so sick of schools closing because of a light dusting of snow. Do they not understand parents still have to work?

Blame culture has made everyone so afraid of being sued that that won’t be sensible about these things.

Mostly, its health and safety issues that mean schools have to close. Iced up playgrounds, icicles that could fall. Winds causing damage to rooves, fences etc.
Many of our schools are old buildings and pipes, heating systems dont cope well in the cold.
The other big issue is staff actually being able to get to work safely, especially if they live rurally.
Where i work, all staff that are able to physically get to school must....or else they dont get paid... even on days the kids cant come in.

@RubySoo you keep them inside when it is cold and icey

@MethDozer yes! We would if it was dangerous...of course!. The kuds and staff hate 'wet play' not good for any of us!
But if the grounds are unsafe to walk on theres risk of flying debris, the school would close to pupils.

@RubySoo yeah, in steady 70mph winds I can see that being a small issue I guess.
