This Saturday, a group of 11-12 year olds are going to build their own lean-to shelters in the woods and then sleep in them in 27 F temperature

What could possibly go wrong? 🙃

Absolutely nothing! Provide them with the proper knowledge and guidance, they'll be fine! Learn to do by doing!!

@WildBill25 I think they'll be fine. Everyone will have proper cold weather camping gear, and it isn't supposed to rain.

@SW-User even if it does rain, teach them how to deal with it!

Nothing! I had a 4H project for a couple of years, Outdoor Adventures. I taught the kids survival skills, every winter we would go winter camping, build a shelter, firewood gathering, no chainsaws, matches only to start a fire. Sometimes it got pretty chilly -15C. Couple of kids were the 4H minimum for age (9 years old). Nobody died, everyone had a blast!! It was one of the most popular projects in our club!

Oh it’s getting cold in your neck of the woods!

Dad has to insist that his son wears a coat - again...
@SW-User If he's running a lot, that could explain why he is not feeling the cold like you are.

Alternatively, he could be a human radiator.
SW-User
@HootyTheNightOwl I'm usually not too terribly cold either. I'm also a human radiator, so he takes after me I suppose
@SW-User That would explain it... if you're a human radiator, then there's a good chance he could be, too.

Meanwhile the teachers are gonna sleep at a nearby hotel and check up on them in the morning ?
SW-User
@SW-User Meanwhile the adults guiding them are gonna sleep outside in tents next to the woods.
