I finally have a houseplant that hasn't died.

I moved into an apartment about 16 months ago. Got a houseplant. A dumb cane. It died. Got an umbrella plant. It died. Got another one. It died. Some other plant. Died...

Here's the thing. I used to have a bunch of houseplants and they all thrived. Operative word "house".

My apartment is terribly small and doesn't have good light. It heats up terribly in the summertime and gets kinda cold in the winter.

I probably over watered too.

Well. I got a Peace Lily and am happy to report that it is doing well. Even bloomed a couple flowers. I diligently open my blinds and set by the window every morning. Water it once a week (in the Summer). maybe every 10-12 days in Winter.

It brings me great joy that i finally have this little green friend in my home.

My guidlines for buying plants -- both house and outside -- Buy one, if it survives, buy another. If it dies, try something else.
Nothing thrives here either so I can relate. I used to have live orchids but I have cats and many strains of orchids are harmful to kitties. There are many silk artificial plants that look very real.
We have the same problem. Everything dies. Its depressing. BUT I have a snake plant that is doing well. All of the others I just watch the leaves fall off.
