Today I went to Bells Rapids on the Avon River in the Avon Valley. The Avon River is where the Avon Descent is held each year, water level permitting. The Avon Descent is an annual, two-day, white water event along the Avon and Swan Rivers starting at Northam, 100 kms, 60 miles North East of Perth. It includes both Canoes and Kayaks and small motor boats, and finishes in the Perth suburb of Bayswater. It is held in August of every year. Not this year though. Bloody Covid. Anyways, Gusman ventured out there and managed a few pictures for your perusal. A quiz. When walking through the bush, on a track with vegetation close on both sides, what do you think may have freaked Gusman out? What happens sometimes walking through the bush which is a little disconcerting to say the least? AU$1.50 to the first person to answer the quiz question correctly. Avon River The first few are date stamped. I switched it off once I knew it was on.

Okay, so you are asking, "Where are the birds, Gusman"? Well, there is a special treat for Y'all, and Gusman too. The Redcapped Parrot is not abundant, and to be blessed with the company of a Pair of them today truly turned today's sojourn into a special occasion. Native only to South West Western Australia, though not endangered, are known to be skittish and always on the move. These two were within 20 feet of me and hung around for a whole minute. The last time I was able to photograph the Red Capped Parrot was more than two years ago. Here for your viewing pleasure is the elusive Red Capped Parrot, close up.

What else has Gusman got for you today? What about a Pair of Galahs eating the bark of a Eucalyptus Tree. Well they do not actually eat the bark, there are several theories. Sharpening/cleaning their beaks, Territorial Marking, it has even been suggested that if the tree is ring barked by this method, the tree dies and may produce future nesting hollows.

Anything else you ask. You're a hard lot to please. Came across a Mob of Emus. These Birds are really skittish and baulk at having their Photos taken.

And that is your Blooming Lot for today. Turning to leave, I spot a Perentie Goanna, managed to capture his majesty afore he awayed. The Perentie is the largest of Australia's Goannas and can grow to 8 feet long. This one is about 3 1/2 feet, at a guess. The Perentie is the 4th largest lizard in the world. Rarely seen by humans as it is very shy and can run away rather rapidly. Clocked at 40 kph, 25 mph.
I'm off to water the garden now. Don't forget the AU$1.50 prize for the first person to correctly answer the quiz question.
