Unsettling Hike

I was hiking today and all of a sudden everything got really quiet. As I continued to walk I felt unsettled like something was watching me. I didn’t see anything I just got the feeling. As I continued along this trail I noticed tons of dead trees, like more than normal for an area, there were trees barely hanging on by a limb attached to others, and what looked like death traps ready to fall from above on a distracted hiker. The whole time I was in this part I was afraid. It’s weird how a place can feel so unsettling. Nothing wanted to be there, I didn’t hear a single thing.

Looks and feels sketchy just from the pic. I've felt very unsettled a few times hiking too. Once I know I was being stalked by a black bear.

Hell no, what did you do when you thought that ?
HappyCamper74 · 46-50, M
@PrestonJ I was frightened to say the least. I could smell him and I heard him snort a few times. I would stop and look, all was still and quite. I would start walking again and there the sound was again. I know it was stalking me, but I never saw it. I started slamming my walking stick hard into the ground with each step. I picked up my pace and was making as much noise as possible. It was scary. I now have 2 cans of bear spray that I hike with now.

But those trees looking like that are very dangerous to walk under.

@HappyCamper74 Are you VERY sure you know how to use "Bear Spray"? You DON'T spray it into their face!! Instead, spray it UNDER THEIR CHIN!!! Then they will inhale it and put them away from you!!

Some places feel welcoming, peaceful or full of joy. Others do not. It is probably just our mid-brain trying to keep the rest of us in one piece, lol.

There were fields of furns right after the sketchy section of the forest. I felt immediately at peace.

Try and look up the history of the area. See if there's other people that feel the same way there.
Has to be more people that have noticed.
I always go by my intuition, as it sounds like you do. Because it's probably not your imagination.

I try too, and this time it was so strong that I couldn’t ignore it

Looks like a tiny tornado knocked those together
PrestonJ · 36-40
@Mindful I think that’s what happened

if you're trail is anything like the Appalachian Trail here on the east cost US, just stay off it.

SO many deaths....murders and accidents......and it's not far from places like Salem, Mass or Burkettsville (Blair (witch)), Maryland, the AT comes about 5 miles away from my house, abd 1 muder site is only 15 miles away.

Once you are back I would like to share my thoughts on similar feelings and experiences I have had and the possible reasons....
PrestonJ · 36-40
I’m back, I’m far far away from there now in a cozy cabin at the top of a mountain. Please share your thoughts, I’m interested to know what you think about it

@PrestonJ i have heard, as well as experienced it myself, that certain spaces contain strong energy which is either positive or negative, and depending on the sensitivity of our own energy we experience it in different ways... This is similar to the vibes which we get from people... We are instantly comfortable with some and not so with others.. it's all about the energy which people and spaces exude.... Some people give us positive energy and we feel energized in their presence and with some we feel drained out.... So it's important to listen to what the body feels and respond accordingly...

I agree with that completely. I think it happens so much that we are just used to it and we unconsciously just act on those feelings. It’s a great defense mechanism. When you really think about it it’s pretty amazing how we intuitively know what good for us. I remember feeling very alone, and vulnerable. Thoughts of bears kept popping into my head, you couldn’t even hear the leaves blowing in the wind, although these trees were missing most of them, and some were pine trees, so they don’t make as much noise.

Yup. Been there, done that. Keep a very watchful eye, and a hand near your gun. I say this from experience.

Big Foot country. Looks like a marker left by Big Foot. Caution!
