The best thing is to put up some tall fences; the fact is that most American houses don't have protective structures around them, which I find surreal.
@mazedona I dunno, it seems within a week something has dug under it, through it or just climbs over top, especially rats, but also skunks, possums and raccoons. If we had bears or coyotes they would be through a fence pretty quickly too.

The smaller animals at least would most likely find ways through at ground-level.

Repellents and Motion Deterrents
• Spray natural irritants: Apply homemade capsaicin sprays (made with boiled peppers, onions, and cayenne) or commercial options like Bonide Repels-All Granules around the garden perimeter.
• Use activated sprinklers: Set up motion-activated tools like the Havahart Critter Ridder Sprinkler to startle nocturnal visitors with a quick burst of water.
• Rotate scent deterrents: Change out scent barriers, such as predator urine or strong essential oils, every few weeks so pests do not adapt to them
