I Have a Garden

I picked tomatoes from the garden thursday. First one ripe enough to eat today...yum! On a salad for lunch. There is no comparison to 'store bought' ones! Funny thing, I hated them as a child. My grandfather raised many acres of them and peddled around town. I despised hearing 'mater sandwiches' announced as lunch! Mmmm...for some of Paw's tomatoes.

yum! I have a couple cherry tomato plants, but the tomatoes are still green yet.

@Scribbles well, like I told my pals earlier, we suffer lots of sweat trade off for early tomatoes!

@sunni That is true, I know feel like I'm constantly weeding and watering and everything. lol. But it pays off.

Everything I have is running a little late this year-I'm in charge of garden at work, and have a ton of plants in my apartment, and a neighbor and I share an outdoor garden space. (but I tend to mix in plenty of manure and peat and extra soil every year, so it always ends up as a bumper crop. With lots of extras to give away to friends or the local food pantry), because I had such a cold Spring by me. How early did you plant this year?

Girl! You've got it going on!! I'm honestly not sure but we had tons of rain when we would have been setting the plants out. Couldn't even begin to get in the garden. So by the time it was finally dry enough to work it up, we were probably a month behind. But once it did dry up, the cash crops (soybeans, corn, hay) had to take precedence over the garden. Living according to the weather...endless. but I wouldn't have it any other way.
