We felt it down here. I thought maybe a car crashed outside.

@SW-User My friend was working inside of Walmart when the rolling earthquake hit, It was I think a 4.6. She said she never felt it inside the store. I guess customers were coming in later telling her about it.

@cherokeepatti I was walking my dog behind my house. It was subtle so I figured maybe something on the road.

@SW-User I think unless it’s really big it’s harder to feel outdoors than in a building that sways.

I did - 3rd time I experienced that...I think this was bigger than the one in 2011 or so...15 miles North of the city today
rosyhills · 31-35, F
Is it weird that I want to experience one?
Just not one where the building I'm in is crashing down on my head, but to look down and see the earth split and crack sounds intriguing 🥴

@rosyhills Earth quakes sound and feeling like the side of your house has been hit by a freight train. They are sudden and scary. Real big ones also cause the ground to sway and shake like the ocean swell.
Ive heard felt two in the last 30+ years.

@rosyhills likely you won’t see the earth crack but YIKES if it was bad enough to do that.
Zaphod42 · 51-55, M
Eek, 5.5 is up there…that’s up in the range where most of us Californians even start to pay attention! Hope everyone is ok!

We were spared the worst of it, but the stories and footage are amazing.
Can't imagine what the NJ epicenter was like.

We felt it here in far Rockaway .
I think we ( in Basking Ridge Nj) May have gotten a slight tremor ( aftershock)about 15 minutes ago.
sciguy18 · M
@soar2newhighs There was a magnitude 4.0 aftershock a few miles southwest of Gladstone just before 6 PM.
@sciguy18 Think I felt it. Thankfully my beer didn’t go flat! I was at the local watering hole.
I heard what sounded like an explosion. Got up, looked. Saw nothing, felt nothing. It occurred about 15 or so miles west of where I am in NJ.
