When An Earthquake Happens At The Same Time A Storm Is Coming To The Area…

It can be confusing like last night. 5.1 near Prague, OK….I thought the storm was here. 😂 Locals are still reporting feeling more earthquakes.

Do earthquakes happen often there?

@Madmonk Not so much like about a decade ago. But there was one around the time an Arctic cold front blasted through and it was near a good-sized lake. I don’t know if it was a coincidence but heard of it happening a few years ago when an Arctic cold front blasted through and it was also near a lake. We had a lot of earthquakes due to salt water disposal wells and Arkansas had figured it out and was paying to bring their salt water from oil well drilling to Oklahoma to dispose of down oil well here too. So it made it worse. Had 3 big ones that shook me up when they happened and each one was different in the way they happened. Last one nearly rocked me out of bed.

@cherokeepatti oh wow!! Do they do any property damage?
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Madmonk yes near the epicenter. A couple had their home damaged by this last one. It knocked bricks off the outside of their home and did structural damage as well
The earthquake was shallow and registered a 5.1. Happens with most earthquakes that strong, I think being shallow is another factor in the damage.

@cherokeepatti wow that’s significant. Hopefully the bounce back alright

@Madmonk Hope the insurance company steps up and pays off too. But I think we have to have earthquake insurance for that now.

@cherokeepatti damn insurance companies try to wiggle out of everything

@Madmonk Earthquakes are hit or miss in some areas so why would many people pay extra for that insurance? They aren’t as common as a decade ago either. Companies that got paid to take the salt water and disposed it into oil wells should have to fund the repairs in my opinion. If Arkansas was smart enough to know that it causes earthquakes those companies that accepted it and did it should pay up. Not only earthquakes but they have ruined water wells for some rural folks here. When I worked at Walmart an old man with a farm told me he had to truck in water for his livestock because his well had turned salty. He would come in every week and refill bottles of water and buy it for his personal consumption. I asked him one day if there were oil wells not far from his property and he said yes, and I told him that was the reason his well turned salty. They had disposed of salt water in them and contaminated the ground water. They should have to pay to have water trucked in for that farmer and enough for all of his consumption including showers and personal use and the livestock too.
