Has the UK caught with the US in ‘ celebrating Halloween ?

When visiting America in the mid 90s , ( a suburb of Washington DC ) i was surprised what a big thing Halloween was compared to England .

The houses where’ decorated with great care and style ( the opposite to Chinese tat seen in the UK now)

Alll Hallows day was very low key here 30 years ago . Now we have imported the tradition of Trick or Treat and it has become a commercially exploited occasion .

The Christian church disproves , but as we have become a much more secular society , not much notice is taken .

Halloween seems so innocent but you are inviting darkness and evil in with all that stuff. I do like pumpkin carving though and sweets for kids. I will tell you all about Jesus and how awesome he is.

@PatientlyWaiting25 Evil has to be knowingly invited into your life. It’s not a secret when it comes. Those in despair often choose it because they feel they have no other choice. Hopelessness is the ally of evil. Halloween is just fun.
@PatientlyWaiting25 I'm not sure that dressing up as a superhero or princess and extorting free candy constitutes

inviting darkness and evil in

...but there are people who celebrate it in a pagan sense.

@SomeMichGuy @Muthafukajones the scary costumes, fake murder scenes and watching horror films that are glorified this time of year are a gateway and lull you into a false sense of security. "It's just a bit of fun" Satan masquerades as an angel of light and he is clever.

@PatientlyWaiting25 that's a horrible picture
PatientlyWaiting25 · 46-50, F
@WoWgirll It's not a picture. It's a pumpkin which I carved myself. The image is of Jesus carrying the cross.

@PatientlyWaiting25 you did really good I misunderstood the meaning

@SomeMichGuy they probably do. In fact I know they do sometimes.
@PatientlyWaiting25 I appreciate your ability to honestly evaluate yourself.

Why do scary costumes bother you?
PatientlyWaiting25 · 46-50, F
@SomeMichGuy it's more about the effect that they would have on other people that bothers me. Fear is not from God and some people, elderly or more vulnerable can be affected quite badly.
@PatientlyWaiting25 You mean effect.

So now it's not about the costume being a gateway for the wearer, or even the viewer, but the viewer being scared?
PatientlyWaiting25 · 46-50, F
@SomeMichGuy well that is just one thing that is a gateway. Anything that is not from God the enemy can and will use to his advantage. My point is that there's so much about Halloween that draws people to get involved with dark and dangerous things because it's all wrapped up as just a bit of fun.

@SomeMichGuy you don't have to be actively seeking to be drawn into something. It's not about the costumes as much as what you're getting drawn into and the effect it has on other people if you are walking around dressed like a murder victim and covered in blood.

With regard to the things that I do actively seek, and I know you are talking about sexual stuff that probably isn't that wholesome. I know I am just as broken as the next person but that's why I need Jesus. It's not the healthy that needs a doctor and being Christian doesn't make you perfect. If we were all perfect, non of us would need a saviour.

It's easy to walk away from Halloween. Its just one day. Other addictions and afflictions are not easy to break and walk away from.

@SomeMichGuy I don't have trauma about costumes. I just have an opinion which I am sharing. Superheroes and princesses do not hurt anyone. We have a light party at church every year and positive costumes are great fun, I also get behind many of the other positive aspects that you'll often find at a Halloween party, like pumpkin carving though I won't be doing demonic faces in mine. It is far better that the focus of your celebrations be on Jesus. I do strongly believe there are demonic forces at work and on the counter attack where possible. If we believe in Jesus being the light in the darkness then we also have to stop pretending the darkness doesn't exist. My job is just to provoke thought and questioning, you are free to make your own mind up as to what you do.

@PatientlyWaiting25 It isn't thought-provoking to totally misrepresent your involvement in something, or to hammer at something which is quite atypical.

It makes you seem like a typical bait-poster and more.
PatientlyWaiting25 · 46-50, F
@SomeMichGuy how am misrepresenting? Or hammering on? I left one comment which you wanted to argue against. I am also from the UK. My opinions are as valid as anyone else's it's just you don't like my opinion because it's Christian.

@SomeMichGuy whatever. It's what I believe so it's what I do. You do you.
@PatientlyWaiting25 Actually, you don't take your own advice, so it's unclear what you believe.
