I stood under a magnificent chestnut tree in my youth waiting for the school bus. I did not notice it till I was sixteen. It had been there before the First World War. Brown and yellow it met me each day. I saw its beauty at seventeen too, but alas no more. I grew old, like my old friend, and one day it was felled. No more.

@Patriot96 🤔yes many moons ago when i was at senior school we had a lot of horse chestnut trees down the drive .in autumn the groundsman use to have a bonfire and if the leaves where wet you would get a lot of smoke and a strong smell of burning in the air

I love it when it gets chilly at night and someone in my neighborhood burns a stick or two of wood in their fireplace. And then I wake up in the morning and think “What a nice morning to take a walk”….slip on a fleece hoodie and take a walk around the neighborhood.

It is a smell that stimulates thoughts of the past
