Pepsi, Pepsi, Pepsi
No Coke.
Cheeseburger, Cheeseburger, Cheeseburger
sorry...got stuck in a Saturday Night Live memory there when the memory isn't even about that.
I really don't drink soda, or pop, or sodapop or whatever the fuck you call where you are.
The only time I drink it any more is when I am out for supper and even then I usually just order water (or a dark beer if I am not going anywhere).
When I was a kid, I worked for my dad and at his place of business we had a Pepsi Machine. Part of my job was to fill it every day and pull out the change (I think towards the end it was fifty cents a can) and count it and put it in a cigar box in the file cabinet drawer so he could reconcile what we sold to what he bought.
Because of where we were, he generally only got a shipment of soda once or twice a year, so we always looked over what we sold the year prior. I remember Pepsi, Mountain Dew and Grape Crush as being the most popular. And the grape at that time was not even a Pepsi brand and the jobber always bitched a little about it being in a Pepsi Machine and the fact that we got it from another source.
We sold quite a bit of soda not only because of our location but because my dad set the temperature to the point where the soda was so cold that it was almost slushy.
The least popular was Diet Pepsi and there was always left overs at the end of the season and if we wanted to drink a soda, that was the only soda he would allow. No sense us drinking the stuff that was sure to sell!
This is probably where I ended up getting my aversion to drinking soda.
One soda that I will always drink if offered or if it is available is Ginger Ale. Doesn't matter the brand. This also harkens back to childhood memories because my grandpa would occasionally stop at one of the local taverns and would bring me in with him. He would order a "Ten High" on the rocks for himself and a gun ginger ale for me. We would sit at the bar and I would listen to the banter and enjoy being in "a man's world" for a little bit as a kid.
I hadn't thought of Ten High in many years until today for some reason and had to look up to see if it was even still available. It is, although probably not around here anymore. Ginger Ale certainly is and I have to make a trip to the grocery store later and think I will pick some up.
