There are ways to bait & kill rodents without using poisons that would kill animals that would be consumed by other animals. Involves a mixture of foods rodents are attracted to plus baking soda. Rats and mice are unable to burp, if they get a gas buildup they die rather quickly.

This is a sad disturbing fact, no doubt. While I have not heard of rat poison being in "human grade" foods lately, those who put rat poison around, sometimes even in contained spaces, do for sure harm or kill many creatures. Not just wildlife, but also people's animal companions.

This is why I've removed owls from my diet.
