I Grew Up On a Farm

It is so busy right now. Three or four lambs each day. And the sheds are full of ewes and lambs who aren’t ready to go out yet. My job is cooking for the others who are out lambing. And I have to be up in time for college. Which means leaving here at 7.30. But I love to see the lambs. They grow so quickly and in a few weeks they will be playing. I suppose animals have to grow up quickly.

Dairy, pork, beef, poultry and crops here primarily. Most farms are primarily corn & bean producers.

I do not. My family exited farming in a single generation. My grandparents farmed and not one of their children did. But I live in a rural area and grew up with farm kids. I worked farms until I could get a job at 16.

I remember the first time I saw a pasture of ewes during breeding season. Do you use the breeding harness with crayons?

Lol - not so far as I know! I just couldn't figure out why in the world all these sheep were suddenly blue & orange! :D

Ok. The rams wear a harness with a red wax in it. It’s called a reddle. When they have sex with a ewe the ewe is left with a red wax on her back. So we know when she will lamb. @hlpflwthat
