We had them when I was a child and they were a lot of fun in the winter when we couldn’t stay outside long to play. We also had Tinker Toys, they were also fun. Did you know it was the son of a famous architect, Frank Lloyd Wright, who invented Lincoln Logs? His son wanted to go to college to get an architect degree. His father refused to help him with college. Instead he had a big contract in Japan and said he would mentor him to be the overseer of the project. So his son traveled to Japan and worked there doing that Japan. His father paid for his expenses but withheld his salary so he eventually came back to America before the project was completed. That’s when he came up with the idea for Lincoln Logs. As popular as they were he never profited from them. I don’t know whether it was because he hadn’t filed a patent for them or what. *** Making houses and other things out of sugar cubes and icing was really popular back then. The sugar cube company would have annual contests to see who could build the best thing from them. One winter built a replica of the White House. We never got to do that because my aunt and uncle didn’t believe in wasting food items.
