@tindrummer Will have to check it out. Was at Crater Lake, Lassen Volcanic Park and Lake Tahoe this past August w my son.

@BrandNewMan All 3 worthy destinations.
I'll also throw in Hi-way 1 on the California coast from Big Sur (my neighborhood) to Mendocino
And a # of my posts have pics from all over northern California for destination ideas

@tindrummer Thanks .. that is a great suggestion!
Crater Lake trail to the boat ramps is closing for major revamp until ~ 2028, so wanted to get there ahead of that.

I honestly don't think you could go wrong with either WA or AK. But of rje two, AK is a personal favorite. It's an amazing state. I'd avoid high tourist season though, if you aren't wanting scads of people around.
BrandNewMan · M
@LadyBronte yeah .. to extent possible and not be risking heavy snow if going to Arctic Circle
LadyBronte · 61-69, F
@BrandNewMan Agreed. You can't wait too long, and the weather can be unpredictable later in the season. The good news is, you have a while to research it, to make the best decision.

I just booked a cruise from Japan to Singapore October 2027

@LadyBronte Hello, she is struggle with osteoarthritis in her left knee, finally made an appointment at the earliest in Jan 2026
BrandNewMan · M
@OriginalNedKelly That sounds like a great trip!
LadyBronte · 61-69, F
@OriginalNedKelly I'm sorry to hear that. I hope she's doing alright and the wait to see someone won't be too bad.

I would tell you Utah. Outside of the 5 national parks there are other really cool out of the way places.
But you need a high clearance 4x4 to get to the jaw dropping places.
But then again, I have also always wanted to go to Alaska. So if I had the time I would go there.

Washington State is so gorgeous. But voted for the Arctic Circle.
PerfectionOfTheHeart · 46-50, F
@BrandNewMan Washington is my planned retirement state. We’ll see if the palm trees beckon though.
Whatever you end up choosing will be incredible.

@PerfectionOfTheHeart Have you lived there before or a vacation/visit driving that choice?
Hard to go wrong between those 2 in particular.

@BrandNewMan I haven’t. Visited Northern California, but there’s something that draws me to Washington state.
Very true. No bad decision there.

@Kiesel Thanks, do have some interest there too

@BrandNewMan was watching the reluctant traveler starring Eugene Levy the other night, and he visited there most recently
BrandNewMan · M
@Kiesel Will try and check it out

Denali is on my bucket list

Go for a pilgrimage to Camino Del Santiago
faery · F
Arctic Circle sounds awesome. The rest seems more mainstream/touristy
BrandNewMan · M
@faery Yeah .. some compromise needed for activities if beaching. Scuba diving is very good in those Island spots .. a bucket list item I might put up with more people around to get to do.
faery · F
@BrandNewMan It all depends on what you want to do most, ultimately. I live in a sub-tropical environment full of tourists so I'm obviously biased, lol
BrandNewMan · M
@faery Thanks for that. St John looks a bit less crowded option if in a condo and maybe shoulder season if going Island/ diving .. but no doubt AK even less so

@Stereoguy Likely 7-9 days .. Not looking to be in mtn areas outside June-September, but know that could still be some pretty cool evenings. Beachy places probably shoulder season.

You could go to Switzerland in case there’s a nuclear war, they have bunkers everywhere 😅
BrandNewMan · M
@YoMomma True .. hoping that's not gonna be an issue but things are a bit hectic of late ;-)
