Wasn't her time to die

On Christmas Eve 1971, 17-year-old Juliane Koepcke was sucked out of an airplane after it was struck by lightning while flying over the Peruvian rainforest. She fell more than two miles to the ground still strapped to her seat — and somehow lived.

Koepcke then had to endure an 11-day trek through the Amazon jungle before being rescued by loggers. Ultimately, she was the sole survivor of the crash, which killed 91 people, including her mother.
