Garden drama: Prisoner

I don’t know what this is, but it hitchhiked into my house. Wicked proboscis. Makes this a little creepy but cute at the same time. (Its head makes me think of a butterfly)
Trying to find out what specific type of fly this is and if it’s in any way beneficial to my garden. Until then, it can stay in the jar I caught it in. Too bad if I can’t find the info because then it’s never getting out. (Shouldn’t have entered the house. Any other type of fly, and it’d be dead already) 😠

Who are you?!

Honestly, I’ll probably just let it go at the park if I don’t find info on it.

@NinaTina Thank you. 🙂 I saw pictures of bee flies when I typed the description of it, but it wasn’t matching because the ones they showed were fuzzy. That one does look like it though. I’ll get to reading about it. 😃

To me it looks harmless to your garden but I'm not an etymologist :P

@NinaTina Doesn't look like they hurt your plants though. Are they pollenators?
@JimboSaturn I’m about to find out. If not, it can just go to the park. Unless it might help get rid of other bugs I don’t care for. I have a point of reference to study now though. 🙂
@JimboSaturn It’s a threat to bee larvae. Definitely can’t stay in my garden. 😱 It’ll cause problems for the one that’s nesting by my tomatoes.

@Colonelmustardseed yes definetely deserves its freedom
@smiler2012 Granted it. Dropped it off at the park.
