It sounds as if they were worried about the noise and did not know what it was.

On the other hand, I agree with what the guy at the end said about New Orleans kitchens -- I would try that!

@Tennessee Well, I know that these two broods are on 13 and 17 year cycles, respectively. Being prime, that means the LCM is 13 x 17 = 221, hence the oft-quoted piece of trivia that they last appeared simultaneously in 1803 at the time of the Louisiana purchase. 221 years ago.
