It's all very well to be enraged by government overreach on this kind of thing (and like the hypocrite I am, I'm among them when it happens here in the UK!) -

but it's also true that the fashion industry is incredibly destructive of water resources because growing and processing cotton requires a lot of the stuff, so it's only reasonable stewardship to encourage people to buy fewer but better clothes and wear them (and mend them) for longer.

@Persephonee Doing it voluntary should be more common. My niece and her husband makes plenty of money that they could shop at any mall and get what they need. But my niece loves to buy very fashionable used name-brand items at consignment shops, thrift stores, even yard sales. She gets a bargain and when her children outgrow what they have then she resells them at annual garage sales. I like to thrift shop when I can and found some great bargains, sometimes buy certain items on Ebay (am picky about quality) and yard sales. Bought a lot of items that were either new with tags or barely used at one yard sale for 25 cents each, and a few years later new or like new items for 50 cents each…including denim capris, sweaters etc.
Since 2020 we have one quarter of the cheap choices we had before covid. Nobody misses the other six styles of boots.
